[BiturboS4] MAF Problem?

My car (A 2000 A6 2.7T 6spd) has thrown the following codes this morning:
P1128 (VAG 17536) and P1130 (VAG 17538). These indicate "Long Term Fuel Trim mult. Bank 1, System too lean", and "Long Term Fuel Trim mult. Bank 2, System too lean" respectively.
The shop had corrected a vacuum leak that they believed triggered this problem last week and all was good... but it came back again in pretty short order.
There was apparently a technical service bulletin saying NOT to replace the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor right away... but that is how they are leaning now.
Has anyone experienced this particular failure with their 2.7T's? What was the eventual outcome?
The car is apparently running rich to compensate for the "too lean" condition and my fuel economy is quite bad and power is lacking. :/
Any insight would be appreciated.
