I also had the air bag light on. Although I don't remember the number
exactly the text indicated "driver's side resistance too high".  So I just
removed the steering wheel and cleaned the contact ring and all is ok now. I
was really gummed up with a combination of grease and that fine dust that
lays into your car.

Read the air bag removal instructions, follow correct procedures.
