Then again, the '00 might have things like aluminum suspension uprights 
and no ESP.

When I was looking, I was also  concerned about the F-hose and 
oil lines.   Finally, i settled on a '00 with the aluminum suspenion 
upgrights, K04 turbos and samco hoses in place of the stock ones 
(including the F-hose).  Essentially this had removed those issues from 
the equasion.

Since you're in the used market, there are all sorts of options. 
btw... since you are looking, I'll give you a nudge and say I just came 
back from a snowboarding trip and yes, you want quattro!
