Why would you put a colorant into your oil like Amsoil?

folks, pretty soon it would be time  for my 40k
maintenance.  instead of mobil i was thinking of using
amsoil.

has anyone had  any experience with using amsoil
synthetic, good or bad?  it is a lot more expensive
but it is suppose to last more than 10k miles on a
single oil change.
