Russel, and others, this is an email I forwared to Jim, hope this helps. 

Here's an email that I sent to the person I bought my MTM chip from, I was fortunate enough to have some local S4 owners here in NJ help me out with the install, we installed the boost gauge in the center vent, my preference, hindsight, I could've installed it on the A-pillar as well. This install will actually save you $$, as all tuners, AWE, APR and such, charge at least $150 trough $250 for their boost gauges. Only difference, IMHO, is that their needle is white, instead of red, the background color remains red, perfectly matching our interior. Only tool you need is dremel, to fit into your center gauge, also, one advantage of center gauge, is ability of passengers to see boost spike...

I think the gauge costs now like $40 orso, used to be less, however, I think they noted a huge increase in sales and bumped up the price.

The unit has part number 150-121 and you want to order also the tubing kit, 150-851, oh, you also need T-splitter, and some electric connectors, male and female IIRC

What are the options for a boost gauge?  Do they require an additional sensor/pickup to be installed or do they tap into some signal already available in the wiring harness?  Are they available for the A6 2.7T dashboard as well?

I have a fairly small commute, 7 miles, and the engine is barely warm (oil temp reaching 175 degrees) once I get to the office. I try to stay out of boost the whole time, IMHO, one of the best investments so far, the boost gauge, enabling for me a proper warm up. That is before having the boost gauge, I tried to upshift as much and as soon as I could, now with the boost gauge, I noted that early upshifts, actually generate boost. I try to keep it below the 3,000 untill reaching about the 175 degrees of oil temp.

To answer your question, the most I let the car idling is maybe 1 minute, to see the revs come down after start up and than taking it easy untill the engine is warm.

Maybe Kenan or any expert has a differnt opinion.

Hello All.
 
The NE winter and a month straight of sub-25 degree F weather prompted
me to read my 2002 S4 manual searching for Audi's position on warming up
the engine while the car idle.
Like the BMW M3 manual, their position is that due to greater "engine
wear" the car should be driven upon startup.
 
Is there a consensus opinion on this list?
It seems painful to not give a 22 degree S4 a few minutes before
rolling.
