Funny you mention those two problems. One friend I know who has a WRX had an
idle problem right after he got it and then a fuel leak. Took weeks to fix
for some reason. Another I know blew his trans up, though admittedly he was
taking off pretty fast from a stoplight. Both were very new cars. This was
right after they came out .. I'm not sure if the problems were fixed by now
or not.
IIRC the STi has a different (6 speed?) transmission and a completely
different engine. This is the drivetrain that the rest of the world got in
the past. That's a real WRX to me. Fast and strong. Not built for an
"american market" ...
>From what I've seen, an STi is enough fun to make me forget about the
interior and exterior. Cloth seats? Who cares, shut up and hold on! Most
cars will only see it from the back end anyways, and every boy racer will be
drooling over your car even if you hate the way it looks.
A friend of mine just got his butt handed to him by one while driving his
2500lb 230 rwhp turbo miata that's been built for the roadrace track. That
is one well tuned car.. and to get spanked like that was a humbling
experience. STi's are extremely fast. That particular miata can glue it's
bumper to my rear hatch in my S4 from a stoplight with me trying as hard as
I can to outrun it. Ti, you might know the owner... Ian "Codrus" Mccloghrie
ring a bell? He's also got an S4 biturbo.
A current WRX is not this way. You won't be racing "five dot slows" and
other quick cars on the street and blowing them away with a stock WRX. So
you up the boost and then grenade everything. How is that fun?
