[Biturbos4] S4 Alternative

Welcome aboard, Bob.

Coincidentally, just today I read an article in a recent Outside magazine
about Bode Miller. He was taking the author on a drive back from a ski area
in New Zealand. They were alone in the car since none of Bode's teammates
would ride with him. Hopefully he treats his own cars better than he did
the rented Subaru.

Like several others who chimed in on the warm-up discussion, I too only live
3 miles from work which is not enough to get the oil temp gauge to move.
Sometimes I'll take a detour on the way home just so I can spool the turbos
up once or twice. My warm-up procedure hot or cold only involves idling for
10 or 15 seconds before starting out though. I do keep the revs down,
however, and use 0W-40 Mobil 1.

My last turbocharged car (Toyota Supra) lasted 15 years on dino oil with the
same procedure. Still running strong as far as I know.

Hi all -

This is my first post - time to end my lurking ways! ;)

Add us to the list of happy S4 owners who have had few (no?) problems with
their cars. Granted, we bought it used with only 16k miles on it, and have
put only 6k more in the time we've owned it.

On the other hand, we suspect that it led a hard life in the hands of its
first owner (well, lease-holder). It had suffered a broken front bumper
cover, scraped/cracked belly pan and cracked fog light, and who knows what
else before we bought it. It needed new brakes and new tires, which the
dealer replaced before the sale. That first owner was none other than Bode
Miller, downhill skiier... We suspect that on the rare occasions when he
wasn't travelling, he drove it hard; when he was out of town, who knows who
he let drive it! Despite all those danger signals we bought it anyway: the
price was right, it is still under the factory warranty, it seems tight and
quiet, CarFax didn't find anything ugly, and an independent mechanic gave it
a thumbs-up in a pre-sale inspection. Plus, 6-speed Avants are pretty rare
around here, so we decided to go for it.

Despite its suspected previous history, it has been trouble-free for 6k
miles (and almost a year).

Cheers,
- Bob T.
