[Biturbos4] Looks like I have joined the Blown Turbo Club.

Hey Cal,

The guy was STAGE 3 - AWE had just completed the install. I was the (unlucky) unwitting victim. We were both at a light on Delaware Ave in Downtown Philly PA. It's a LOOOOONG blvd that runs along the Delaware River.

Lots of techno clubs, yuppie restaurants, and strip clubs (further down river near the ship yards). Part of it runs next to Downtown Philly. That's where he got me - about a qtr mile stretch between stop lights.

The guy was from NYC. After butt-ass laughing at me - he confessed that he was STAGE 3, and AWE had just finished the install - and he was looking for a rabbit.

Yes, I was STOCK. AWE is about 20 min from my house (they are in the northern Philly PA suburbs like myself) and I am considering a GIAC chip + GIAC tip chip. Will probably go to the "dark side" this Spring.

AOA will ONLY replace K03s with K03s. Believe me when I had my blown turbos replaced (Spring 2003), I asked about installing K04s instead - the dealer said that AOA will not WARRANTY K04s.

Since I was short on cash, plus I wanted AOA to have "skin in the game" (since they blew when i was JUST out of warranty AND I was STOCK), I chose to have AOA replace the original turbos with the upgraded K03s. Next time (optimisitc huh?) my turbos blow, I will replace them with K04s.

Hopefully, it will be END of STORY - as far as blown turbos go.

JY, unless you are running other things besides just a K04 upgrade, I've
heard it's not "night and day" between K03 and K04...provided that both cars
are running a chip.

I bet the reason you got toasted was because you were STOCK (no chip) and
the K04 guy was running software (a chip) since very few people go to the
effort of K04 upgrade without doing software. If you had a chip in your car
I think it would have been MUCH closer.

Now, when you start adding other things on top of the K04 (intercoolers,
downpipes, exhaust, higher octane, specific software.....basically Stage III
or more), then you are talking serious differences.

Just curious: Since you had to pay part of the bill when your K03 went out,
did you try asking if Audi would throw in K04s? That would have been a
better bet.

Cal.
