no offense - but that question illogical - u can't do an engine removal from below - once an engine is removed - it's usually placed on an engine stand. Plus, the engine is removed by pulling it forward then up & out, or down & out from the car. So, I can't see the point that you are trying to make. 
 
It appears that your S4 was put on a lift, and the tech removed the turbos from below, while the engine was still in the car. I've been told and my research (by reading blown turbo stories on AudiWorld, and this forum) has indicated, that most Audi dealers completely remove the 2.7T engine from the car, as recommended by Audi. Your guys have a different approach, good for them. Have you seen a 2.7T engine outside of your S4? It's a mess of wires, sensors, turbos, and intercoolers all compacted onto this smallish block. I think my 1986 (4 cyl turbo) Porsche 951 has a bigger block.
 
I'm quite happy that the dealer removed my S4 engine because they found other "crap" (on the backside of the engine facing the firewall & tranny housing) that could be potential problems, and replaced that too. They were easier to spot visually - with the engine out of the car. 
 
I can agree with that point - because I actually was in the service bay looking at my engine, while the tech & service mgr showed me the blown turbo (impeller), and trashed intercooler (metal shavings from the impeller). Like i said many times be4 (on this forum & AudiWorld), I WASN'T CHIPPED when my turbo blew up and I was just out of warranty (52k mi). 
 
I am glad that the engine was completely taken out of the car, by the dealer, and given a good visual inspection for other potential wear & tear too. If they had just removed my turbos/intercoolers "from below", there is no way that they could have found the additional wear & tear items.
