[Biturbos4] Synth Oil in the 2.7t

Hi Ti and all,
I use Mobil 1 0w30, that's what the owner's manual suggests. Now here's a related question of mine:
I know many people use the new 0w40, from my limited knowledge of lubricating oil, it seems that 0w40 would have to be a little thicker for its higher temp rating, yet it has to have similar lower temp flow capability. So is it a better oil for the 2.7t? The weather here in Calgary doesn't get overly hot in summer, but can get damn cold in winter, plus I plan on road tripping to SanFran next month so prolonged highway driving is a concern, hence want better high temp protection...
TIA!
Quincy
