1.) no worries - they die in 3-5 years - generally just after the 
warranty expires, so do the batteries.
2.) It is nto a sign of any other troubles (generally)
3.) I just put a Sears die-hard (international) in mine.  Works great, 
$99.  Simple fit.  great warranty

( 3 years total replacement).
