Technically though, the body of the car that the dashboard is rattling
against would be equally cold, and would therefore shrink an equal amount.
Unless of course, they had different thermal expansion coefficients.

That said, I too have noticed more rattles when cold.  I agree with the
wedge idea to more accurately locate it.
