Any S4 with ESP has EDL (electronic differential locking) and it would do
this automatically for you. The odd thing is that I thought pre-esp S4's
still had EDL, but if one tire just sat and spun I'm mistaken.
By the wy, the differentials don't actually lock, EDL is just the ABS
system preventing any one wheel from spinning much faster than the other
wheel. Even with ESP turned off, it's still engaged, but I think it turns
off after ... 30 or 35mph. Audi is vague on that, just the same Audi says
that the ESP system will turn itself off if the brakes start to overheat.
Well there are no brake temperature sensors so... how it determines that
is news to me. Chalk it up with the manual transmission cooler that the 01
S4 brochure said the car had but only the euro spec S4's got.
