I have two open diff-, EDL equipped Audis: the 1997 S6 and the 2004
Allroad. The Allroad has replaced the 1998 A4 which also had EDL and the
open diff in the back. All three although OK in the snow, are a far cry
from my previous Audis with real lockable differentials.
This past winter I finally replaced the EDL assisted open diff joke in
the back of my S6 with a Torsen diff off a wrecked V8 sourced as part of
the S-list group from Germany. The behaviour on snowy roads has changed
dramatically. I wish the V8 rear Torsen could be installed in the
Allroad as well... Alas, no such luck for us.
