I highly recommend a combination radar detector and laser interference system. I don't think you need to pay more than $300 for a high quality radar detector that picks up most radar bands. I think of the radar detector as a passive alert system. I also installed a blinder M20 which breaks up a laser signal targeted on my car. It has saved me multiple times and has been well worth the $600 cost of install. I used RadarRoy.com who was reliable and cost competitive. Would recommend him highly.
