yes, more sidewall is what you want! Go with 16s! There are very few
rims that will fit if your brakes are the HP2 variety (not sure, but
that is what my A6 2.7t has). If you can get 16 inch rims that fit, do
it! (BTW, the stock 2.7t rims and sport rims are 16 inch and should
fit, also AT Italia S5 rims fit and I have these for winter rims on
both cars).
I always go narrower with my snows also. On my A5, I run 205s. On my
allroad, I have 215s. Both run 16 inch snows. The theory is that
narrower tires cut through the snow more daily and tend to run up on
top of the snow less. Yes, the load rating is lower, but just don't
drive on the winter tires like you would some performance summer
tires. I've been going with this theory since about '93 (with a '87
5KTQ) and it has always been fine (no problems, worked well).
I haven't ever used Hankook tires. I've had Contis (years ago),
Yokohama and now Michelins on both cars (Arctic Alpins on the A6,
X-Ice on the allroad).
BTW, you'll never go wrong with Hakkas!!!
