[Biturbos4] Snow Tires

First, thanks to all for quick, and good common wisdom, with which I
agree.

I certainly understand the narrower / "-1" rationale ... but still ....
What I was asking was collective experience, and how it compared or
contradicted my own (surprised) finding that the 16" (one size smaller,
2 sizes narrower) snow tires rode poorly compared to my stock 17"
tires. Since I spend MOST of my time on dry roads, but do need good
snow traction (braking, cornering, not forward motion), I'm considering
the two sizes mentioned.

I'm also checking *clearance* for one size *larger* specifically to get
more sidewall, since I have bent 4 AT italia wheels ("s5") from tire
rack. they appear to be made from peanut butter, and I'm making my
local wheel straightening shop rich. So now I'm rethinking "common
wisdom" as well as TR's advice on brands.

The AVUS S4 wheels, while heavy, seem to be pretty strong, and a
235/45/17 snow might, or so I postulate, do well on the S6. But maybe,
and on that car, others have experience with 215/55/-16. Note that
stock on the S6 is 255/40-17 (same OD and circumference as S4 +/-
0.25%).

I also asked about the Hankook because they are part of a decent
package I've seen, and get good reviews in Canada. My fav's are
NOKIA(n) and Vreedstein, given full freedom to choose whatever I
want.... (pirelli's take a belt set in cold weather adn the michelins
are good but very soft)
