[Biturbos4] Tuned!

I've just come from a custom tuning session with
Mihnea Cotet (who drives a B5 S4 himself) ... oh my
... oh my.

I had an MTM+1 chip (FS now) that was rated for 306hp
... it peaked at about 13psi, with steady boost of
about 11 psi (pure recollection). Boost tailed off at
5500rpm and rev limited at something like
7000-7100rpm.

I now have an MRC custom chip that was tuned at 5800
feet in altitude and was programmed with my home
elevation of 9200 ft in mind. I get about 10psi right
up to redline at 7200 rpm with peaks around 15psi
early in the curve. It is smooth as butter and is
quite deceiving. Mihnea rode along making realtime
programming changes as I did 3rd gear and 4th gear
pulls over and over for about an hour (host Brian
Powell, ala s-car group, directed us to a nice
straight officer-free road to test on). He would get
my feedback, make adjustments and watch the measuring
blocks for engine feedback. Once we got to a point
that I was pleased with and where he was happy with
all the data, we headed back to Brian's garage to burn
the chip! Sweet.

The MTM chip could snap you back and provide
wonderfully exciting acceleration, this new chip
brings that power on very strong and doesn't feel as
"nervous" as the MTM, but the receding headlights in
my rearview mirror on my way home this evening brought
a grin to my face. I can't wait to find a stretch of
deserted straight road to try a 6th gear pull to
redline ... :)

I had an opportunity to merge onto the highway from a
stoplight on my way home. Takeoff was good (I'm no
drag racer). The steady pull in 2nd was extremely
deceptive as it pulled straight through 5000 and 6000
rpm with no perceived let off. Shift to 3rd - I was
pushing 85mph within about 400 yards and what seemed
like less than 10 seconds. I had no stopwatch or any
other measurement, just butt-dyno, so take this info
for what it is worth. It seemed a marked improvement
over my previous chip.

I look forward to taking it on the track this weekend.
