Derek,
 
Three things u can do to confirm that it's the MAF. 
 
1) take off the MAF and run the car. If it runs smoother - the MAF is toast!
 
2) If you have VAG-COM - log your MAF readings (i forget which block records MAF). If it's in the low 200s, or less - your MAF is toast!
 
3) look at the MAF visually and MAKE SURE it's not a BOSCH - don't assume that you have a Hitachi unit - if it's BOSCH - it's probably toast!

01.5 so I assume it has the Hitachi. My car has lots of hesitation at WOT, 
I almost have to coax it to go full throttle, and I've changed over to 
hyperboost diverters with no change so I believe it's the MAF. I'll let you 
know.
