Thanks, Dave.  Silly me.  When I went back and looked again at the sketchy repair 
information, it does, in fact, say that you have to drop the back of the subframe.  Got it 
done, but it still seems a little silly, especially when working on the ground!

As ridiculous as it is, you unfortunately do have to lower the subframe a bit to extract 
those bolts.

You don't need to drop it down completely, but just back out the two large subframe bolts 
(they are really long) enough to free the control arm bolt.
