This wheel-bearing discussion is particularly timely as the left-rear
on my '01.5 S4 Avant has started to make ominous noises. I can see why
left-side units go first (off-ramp banzai runs come to mind) but I do
find it a little odd that the rear has gone first-- I would have guess
the front is subject to much greater stress.
What's the wisdom on replacing bearings? Should they be done in pairs
front-rear or same-axle? Or is it reasonable to do a one-off?
I've got 1 month of the Audi "advantage" extended warranty left, so
I'm going to see if I can get the dealer to do this on Audi's dime...
