Dave,
Yeah, so far the car has been really good to me. I've had it a year and
the only problem it has had was a fuel pump in November. The B5 S4 def.
has some issues (everyone of course goes right to the turbos and their
failure issues) but I've had good luck with mine. (knocking on wood,
BTW.)
When I bought the car I knew that I'd probably be replacing the K03s
sometime around 100k miles. That seems to be about when they go. I'm at
80k now, so I have a couple years to go until that happens, hopefully.
Then it's time for Stage 3! Other than that, just keeping up with
regular maintenance (I'm doing the timing belt next month) and keeping a
little room on the credit card in case something breaks seems to be the
way to go. I also have a good relationship with an independent
mechanic, who knows his stuff, which is a big help. I couldn't afford
the maintenance on this if I had to get it through a dealer. I also
shopped around for a while for one. I'm the second owner of mine, and
it was adult driven and never modified. I think that is the way to go.
BTW, have any links to pics of the e//S2? Sounds like a cool project!

Is this to say your non Ur S4 is not a headache?
Sorry for chiming in (thread theft) but I have been thinking of
replacing my e//S2 with a non Ur S4 (bi-turbo) but have read of a lot of
problems with them. My e//S2 is still in the development stages so it
is constantly needing something fixed/done right (the PO had the
conversion done to a mediocre standard).
