Adam is correct in saying that it really depends on the tire & rim  
used.  For example I was running 225/50-16 Hoosier's mounted on the A4  
16" rims, on the track car and experienced some pretty major fender &  
tire damage on the front tires (the rear tires were just fine).  This  
year I am running 245/35-18's with 25 mm hub-centric spacers which I  
am changing the fenders to accommodate up to a 265 width.
