[Biturbos4] You Guys Have It Easy! - Maintenance Wise....

I finally reached Stage 3+ on my MY 2000 S4. Over the years I've gone from Stage
1 (Chip), Stage 2 (Chip + Exhaust), Stage 3- (Chip, AWE Exhaust, K03 hybrids,
Upgraded Tiptronic transmission, 42 lb Fuel Injectors, Bosch 044 fuel pump, APR
Bi-Pipe, Labree DPs, AWE ICs). Going to Stage 3+ included a UNITRONIC Custom
Tune, Garrett GT25R Eliminator turbos, Snow Water Injection, 60 lb Fuel
Injectors + all the options I listed while the car was Stage 3-.

Needless to say, the financial outlay that I've spent on my S4 (200,000+ miles)
in the last six years has been significant, no, make that enormous! Was it fun -
absolutely! But, shortly after going to Stage 3+ , I recently broke the Tip
Tranny (UPGRADED & rebuilt by IPT in North Jersey and I would NOT recommend them
to anyone owning an Audi) for the SECOND TIME (30 days ago). The cost to UPGRADE
the tranny (supposed upgraded torque converter, valve body and gearing) to
upgrade the tranny the first time was $6,500.00. The S4 is currently sitting in
my garage.

At this point, I'm inclined to rebuild the tranny for a final time (considering
a 2BENETT race based rebuild). The cost will be in the $6000-$8000 range
depending on how strong I want to make it. Since my S4 is conservatively over
400 HP (the GT25R turbos are rated for 500+ HP with proper tuning), the crazy
price to rebuild the tranny is still cheaper than a new Camaro or ANY other 400+
HP car. The fact that my S4's body looks great for a 10 yr old, 200,000+ mi car,
makes it spending $$$ one last time appealing.

By the way, my decision to spend the $$$ on another tranny makes no economic
sense, it's purely an emotional one, which is the case with any car that has
been modded to point of NO RETURN (to stock). My mechanic (he put 95% of the
mods on my S4) votes to "part the car out" and sell the pieces on eBAY,
AudiWorld, Audizine, and QuattroWorld. I just can't get myself to that point -
yet! (if I blow a 2nd upgraded tranny - eBAY here I come!)

Just wanted to share - since the list has become somewhat active again.

Happy Holidays from ImolaTipSoul-ja! (a soldier for the tip cause!)

In my experience doing the driver's side (lhd), the main problem is access.
Remove the
coolant reservoir first. Obstacles and difficulty seeing the fitting itself
make if hard
to a) fit tools securely on the fitting, and b) actually get enough
movement for any
ratcheting type tool..
Based on advice from someone on this list, I cut off the old metal tube to
allow access
with a box wrench or socket. I did my original loosening from above moving
in small
increments. Going together it's an easier job using a fitting wrench or
open-end to get
the new one threaded in and snug.

Good luck...

I am looking for advice on two items:

1) Having missing at high boost.......it would appear to be defective EGT
sensors... I have the set of two on order, and expect them in a few days.
Please give me any advice on how best to replace them. ... Thanks,

Alan Cordeiro
