[Biturbos4] need detail on bolts holding the AC compressor to theengine, and spacers between it and the bracket

People have scoffed at the "Service Position" as unnecessary, but I find it's the way to
go. Skip the special 'slider' tools and just use a long bolt (to fasten) inside a length
of pipe (the sliding surface). Sorry, I can't remember the thread size; just take one
with you to the hardware store and match it up. A length of pipe (3/8?) about 4" and a
correspondingly long bolt will work just fine. The front bits will slide easily once it's
all freed up.
Can't help much with AC questions...
FWIW, check to make sure that the extra force on the belt hasn't broken the PS pump mount
(at the rear end that mounts under the intake).

Subject: [Biturbos4] need detail on bolts holding the AC compressor to theengine, and
spacers between it and the bracket
I replaced the oil last Thursday, and when finished started the engine to run it before
doing the final oil level check. There was a loud sound from the engine, then it went
smooth.
As I drove the car off the ramps and out of the garage, I realized I did not have power
steering assist. I verified the serpentine belt had been chewed up.
I did considerable research on how to replace the serpentine belt, and found our about the
"service lock position". If anyone has tips, or a link to an article that will help
someone doing it the first time, please reply, thanks.
The Gates belt came in today, and I crawled under the car to understand where all the
bolts, connectors, hoses etc were that needed to be unhooked. I also tried to see if there
was something frozen on one of the pulleys driven by the serpentine belt. During my
investigation I discovered one pump unit (later discovered it is the AC compressor), was
totally loose. I am guessing as long as the serpentine belt had tension it has stayed in
place even while the bolts had fallen off...but in replacing the oil filter I must have
pushed it backwards, which led the belt to jump off and get shredded as it climbed off at
an angle.
Not that it looks very easy to get to reinstalling the bolts, I may have to remove the oil
filter and oil cooler first, but now I have some urgent questions:
1) Can someone tell me what size the bolts are Xmm dia and XXmm long, with 1mm/thread?
2) The Bentley shows some spacers between the compressor and the compressor bracket...what
size (mostly what height) are those?
4) How on earth can you slide the spacers on between the compressor and bracket? is engine
removal necessary to get in that area? There seems to be some sort of a turbo pipe running
below, but not too easy to remove, to get more access.
3) What is the thread dimensions of the 3966 tool that allows the service carrier to slide
on it? Bolt dia, thread, and length,
Thanks,
Alan
