Well, of course you could do it this way, but it is not the "cheap" ,
easy or quick way to go. You still need buy or fabricate all of the
turbo specific plumbing like the oil cooler, water lines for turbo,
etc. The pistons are too high compression and cast vs. forged on a
turbo car, the bearings all need to be upgraded, blah, blah, blah. Then
you have to do something about the fuel injection system and throttle
body. Then you end up with a cobbled together car that will likely
never run as reliably or strong as if you had started with a turbo
engine to start with.
BTW, the RS2 intake won't fit on a car with a distributor, at least not
without significant modification to the manifold itself.
For $2k - $3.5k or so you can find good 3B or AAN engines with
everything. Sure, you will still need a couple of $k more to finish it,
but you can sell off the old parts. There was even a complete RS2 ADU
engine (had A/C compressor, all brackets, plumbing, oil cooler, etc. but
no turbo) that just sold on eBay in Germany for $2k. Even with shipping
that would be a screaming deal.
While this is often the thinking that gets one started on one of these
projects, it really is not a practical way to do it.. If cost and time
(hah!) were no object and you are looking for BIG Hp with a "stand
alone" fuel injection system, sure, the 7A block and head are as good as
any to start with.
Just my $.02.
