You will want to pull the harness from the engine harness into the car.
That seemed the "easiest" way to me. I don't believe that you have to
remove the heater box to get it out, but it won't hurt. The harness is
strapped with plastic ties to the floor in a few places, one of which is
under the heater box. It goes from the ECU and grommet across the
firewall and up near the A pillar on the driver's side, where it
connects to the altitude sensor, fuse block, relay panel, instrument
cluster and wipers. If you want to short-cut anything, you can cut the
wires going to the wiper. You will be removing that part of the harness
anyway. I wouldn't cut anything else if I were you. If you do, you
will just end up with more work later on. The engine/sensor harness is
the only red harness in the car, so disconnect it anywhere you can.

No, there really isn't any easier way. As for tips, the best I can
offer is to remove or cut away the carpeting and pad to get better
access to the harness. You have a couple hours of skinned, sticky
knuckles to get the harness out. I would recommend some good
mechanic's gloves, as that sticky harness tape glue is a real PITA to
get off of your hands.
