Hi josh
As far as the fan switch, you can get as low as 85C. That's what i used.
Now, about after run control unit, i used the switch that came with the 3B, which will turn
on the afterrun if the coolant temp reach 110C. Do they have the same switch with lower temp?
I was also thinking to use the ambient temp switch from original 7A engine for after run
instead the after run coolant switch from 3B.

>From what I have read the 7a motor does have 3 theoretical speeds. it's the way bently explains it:
Bently has high 1 listed as low
and has High 2 listed as high
This is for the radiator thermoswitch
f18/f54
The lowest speed would be turned on by "cooling fan low speed relay" So there is a signal that is sent by the "after run control unit" but instead of it them labeling it as low it has no label, but it does run through the after run series resistance.
Terminal 3 - Ground (0V)
Terminal 2 - A 12V feed into the motor which passes thru an internal resistor in order to reduce the fan speed (Hi-1). An external dump resistor device (N47) is used for instances when the slowest speed is needed (Lo).
Terminal 1 - Direct 12V feed into motor for the fan's highest speed setting (Hi-2
This is a bit difficult to explain but if you read it correctly there should be three seperate fan speeds.
Hi 2 which is a +12v connected at terminal 1
Hi1/low which is +12v connected at terminal 2
or low which is a "resisted" +12v at terminal 2
I think what distiquishes the difference between Hi 1 and hi 2 is not volts but rather temperature.
F98= This switch closes at 106-112C and opens at 94-105C
F18= turns ON at ~95C, OFF at ~84C= Hi 1
f54= 102C, OFF at ~91C to control the fan on speed= Hi-2
There is no difference in speed between f18 and f54 there is just a difference when each turns on and off.

Does this make sense?????
If not I can try and make it more intelligent.

The only problem i had with 4 blade is the noise, It is ungodly noisy, even sometime, I had to shut the car down if i want to order food from drive thru. I also put lower temp fan switch (the three prong swich in the lower parts of radiator). The low fan speed turn on when the gauge just almost reach the first thin mark of the temp gauge.

I got it from rod at Thepartsconnection.com I also ordered the new radiator rubber mount from him. I went with akg since it is lighter and according to Rod, AKG built much better than Nissen.

Thinking about going back to 3 blade instead of 4 blade. I also not really sure if the 4 blade will give more flow since it might make the fan motor more work, thus lower rpm on the fan motor to turn the 4 blade fan.

Hi Josh
I'm not sure where i get the 4 blade fan from, but i believe I got it from 80-84 rabbit. i got it from pull yourself junkyard in my town, they have really good selection of vw and audi.
The diameter of 4 blade are the same with 3 blade, which work perfect.
The original radiator made by behr, the replacement radiator i got is AKG, it is plastic cap and aluminum core. I got it from rod at Thepartsconnection.com I also ordered the new radiator rubber mount from him. I went with akg since it is lighter and according to Rod, AKG built much better than Nissen.
Until now i dont really understand why the 7a engine only have 2 speed while other smaller vw engine have 3 speed fan, even my 16v 1.8 have 3 speed fan.

700w 352mm
This thing is an animal :-)If I am understanding this right?
Etka also states that the sport quattro uses the same fan cowl as the 7a motors.
859 121 207a for the sport quattro and
893 121 207a for the coupe quattro but the first three #s don't matter.
This motor is preity expensive too btw:
$413.00
So am I understanding this right? 700w = 700 watts?
Cheers
