[Es2] ready to get in on the action

In following up with all of my options, my local mechanic has agreed to
assist so long as the car doesn't take up a bay for 6 months. I was
thinking of obtaining an engine then building it up (mostly him) at his
shop while I prep the car in my garage. I've gotten one quote for a
clean, tested, warranted AAN with no manifolds, turbo, ecu or harnesses
for $2600, is that reasonable?
Thanks,
Adam

Looks pretty nice, funny how it seems like it would be a wash
financially - $18K to buy this converted car vs. the $6K I already have
invested (car plus S2/RS2 body parts) in the coupe plus ~$12K for an
outsourced conversion.

Adam, I may know of a 1990 AAN converted CQ that would be available. Not
for less than about $18k US though. Very nice car. Here's a link to his
AW picture poster...

Thanks everyone, I'll send some emails and make some calls starting
today. All things considered I would prefer to convert my coupe, if for
no other reason than it is easier for me to explain why the existing car
looks and sounds a little different to the wife than having to deal with
the reasons for buying and selling another car (she just doesn't
understand).
Of course if your car was exactly what I was looking for ......... Do
you have basic details, photos?
Adam

I misread the original email. I agree with Dave, waiting for a converted
car for sale may be dutile. There aren't that many to start with, and
those are mostly in the hands of enthusiasts, so prying them from their
fingers won't be easy. I know mine won't be for sale any time soon.
It's a big project but a relatively fun one. If you aren't equipped to
do it yourself, find a shop you can work with to co-opt the job and do
the parts you can. Or if you're so inclined farm the whole thing out(I
gave you a contact yesterday) and sit back and let someone else do it.
Good luck, and hopefully we can say welcome ot the club real soon.
Mark
