Mike,
Do you mean that you wanted to use the RS2 transmission with the bearing
in the crankshaft? You MUST have a flywheel that will work with the 01E
transmission with the bearing in the flywheel. Both the 01A and 01E
have shorter input shafts than the 016 that was originally connected to
that 3B. The flywheel much match the transmission, not engine. As long
as you got the Spec flywheel for an 01E transmission, with the pins for
the early Motronic (3B, AAN, etc, NOT new S4 2.7T) you should be fine.
I would also pull the pilot bearing out of the 3B crank just as a
precaution against the needles bearings coming out and wreaking havoc on
the clutch assembly.
