Description:
I am selling my 1987 5000 Turbo Quattro Wagon. It is Tornado Red with a very nice Black, half Alcantera, Sport interior. It is showing ~230k miles, but you would never know it. It is an original Colorado car and has absolutely NO rust anywhere. All panels, suspension pieces, nuts, bolts, etc etc etc are ALL rust free (gotta love Colorado). Paint is still very glossy and cleans up beautifully, but the clear coat it starting to “check” in some place on the roof only. There are some small dents and dings here and there, but nothing major and the car has never been in an accident. It also has 35% tinted windows and the tinting is in very good condition. It still has the cargo cover as well.
The interior is very nice considering the age and mileage. It has the typical 5k dash cracks, but I have seen much worse. Interior was originally Tan “comfort”, but I pulled the Black half Alcantera interior out of an 88’ TQ that I was parting out. It is defiantly on of the nicer interior I have seen. The drivers seats show typical wear on the bolster and the seat bottom is “pilling” (like a sweater), but there are no seams ripping or even pulling apart and BOTH seat heaters WORK!!!!! It has a Blaupunkt CD player that works beautifully (skips a little when cold), but the backlighting on the display doesn’t work. You can see the display in the sunlight, but that’s it. It has infinity separates in the dash and rear doors and the front door panels are uncut and never had the “10 Speaker” Audi system either. It also has Euro-spec Coolant temp and fuel level gauges (they read in degree C and liters). All gauges, trip computer
functions, switches, windows work as they should EXCEPT the cruise control (may be simple, but I have not looked into it).
The engine runs great and starts every time with no problem. It will give a puff of smoke on cold start up, so it may need stem seals in the future, but I just ignore it and top it off with oil (goes through about a quart between changes). It is chipped with an IA ECU and it pulls strong (makes 1.9 bar).It has never had synthetic oil, but it has ALWAYS been changed every 3k miles with good filters. Timing belt, water pump (both the main pump and the electric pump), coolant flush (switched to G12 Audi Pink coolant), thermostat, heater valve were done 8 months ago. Timing belt cover, Valve cover, intake tube, throttle cable bracket, P/S brackets have all been power coated red and it also has a TAP Alu. strut tower brace. Cap, Rotor, plugs and plug wires were also done less than a year ago. Battery was replaced with a Wal-Mart battery (2 year full replacement) 7 months ago.
The car is riding on Springs removed from my 5 speed V8 with Boge Turbo Gas shocks (shocks were new when installed 07/02 and they have a lifetime warr.) the springs firm the car up without lowering it. Both front control arms were replaced with new parts at the same time as well. It has really turned out to be a GREAT combination. Rear wheels bearings, pads and rotors were all done together in 2002 as well. I just replaced the front brakes less than 2 months ago. Transmission oil was replaced with Amsoil Synth. in 01/03 and it shifts great. No grinding or whining from the transmission and both diff’s lock effortlessly! The car is pictured with 15x7.5 20V BBS wheels and they have 205/60 Dunlop Sport A2’s on them. They will need replacing in the near future, but they probably have 10k miles left on them. I am also including 15x6 Audi Steel wheels that have Blizzaks on them and they have plenty of tread left (estimating 80-90% left).
All in all this is a great car and it has been ultra reliable for me since I bought it in 00’. I have been on “the List” since 1994, so it’s safe to say that I am an enthusiast and I take care of my cars. Typically, if it needed it, this car got it and it only got the good stuff (Bosch, Boge, Genuine Audi, Etc etc). I am asking $1500 for this car and I feel that it is worth every penny. It may need some work here and there (hey, it’s a 16 year old Audi), but I would not hesitate to get in the car tomorrow and drive it anywhere.....honestly! I would take $1300 if I keep the 7.5in 20v wheels and replace them with 15x6 10v 200 BBS wheels. I am located 25 miles west of Denver and I am willing to help in any way that I can with a potential buyer. Need to get the car to a friend or shop to check it out, pick up at the airport, deliver within reasonable distance? I am a pretty flexible guy and will help in any way that I am able to. Please don’t
hesitate to ask any questions.
