Pearl white 5000 CS quattro sedan 

Audi's top-of-the-line model in 1987, this turbo quattro sedan is still a fast, great-looking, snow-conquering machine. As one lister says, "a great car and a great hobby!" I will miss it but with a new baby, I'm moving into the world of airbags. 

Exterior is in very good shape, except for one ding on the left-front fender. Blue leather interior is okay with split seams. 214k miles. 


Notable upgrades:

- 1.8 bar chip (QLCC) and 1.6 bar wastegate spring. 2nd gear on-ramp acceleration still amazes me, and the power at freeway speeds is great.

- European 100-style (non-turbo cars, H4 bulb) headlights. Good reflectors and lenses (one has seen less than 1000 miles) plus relays give great light.

- European/Canadian spec 16-spoke Ronal wheels

- Nokian WR all-season snow tires, 18k miles

- CD player


Notable problems:

- Exhaust leak at the header 

- Occasional puff of smoke at startup

- A/C doesn't hold a charge (compressor is a rebuilt 3 yrs old)

- Front brakes are warped (plenty of life in all discs and pads)

- Odometer stopped 2k miles ago

- Seat heaters don't work (do they ever?)


I have full records and receipts during my 7 years of ownership, down to every oil change and tank of gas. Repairs during that time:

- Pierburg fuel pump, valve lifters, headliner (stitched up), power steering pump, most power steering hoses, wastegate diaphragm and hoses, timing belt, water pump, main seal, steering rack, radiator, clutch and related bits, clutch master cylinder, front outer CV boots, clutch pedal, ignition switch, after-run coolant pump and relay, driver's window regulator, backup switch, window trim, sunroof linkages, and of course door handles!
