Description:
PICTURES.

Clean Coupe GTs are becoming very rare. If you are fond of older Audi Coupes and are looking for a good looking, reliable and inexpensive classic Audi, this may be it. This car always starts reliably and runs great. The car performs, rides, handles, brakes and sounds as it should. It has always been maintained well and is accident and rust free. The paint still has a good shine with no clearcoat cracking. Only the hood has been repainted to address the usual stone chips on the leading edge. As the photos show, the body, bumpers and trim are all straight. There's a minor crease on lower driver's door only which is barely noticeable. The interior is generally in great shape. The light grey velour is clean and so too are the door panels, carpet and headliner. The dash and center console have no cracks or damage. The interior could use some fresh mats. The electrics are especially healthy. No battery drains, charging, ignition or lighting problems. The digital instrumentation (a rare
Audi feature) is particularly good with none of the notorious diode, bulb or circuit board failures. Everything works! Mechanically, this car is just great. Not too long ago, a fan switch failure caused the motor to overheat. Shortly after, we noticed symptoms of a head gasket failure so I took no chances and removed the head for inspection/repairs and head gasket replacement. Along the way, I replaced timing belt, tensioner, crank and cam seals, water pump, thermostat, hoses, sensors, switches, vacuum lines, accessory belts, etc. The engine performs great! The transmission too performs flawlessly - never a problem. Also, there are none of the typical Audi valve clatter noises, vibrations and exhaust leaks. The suspension and all the drivetrain mounts too are tight and quiet. The AC unfortunately gave up last year. It worked ice-cold and never leaked until the compressor died. Since we hardly use this vehicle any more (too many other Audis in our family), I could not justify
spending any more money on it - hence our decision to sell it. No shame, however, representing this car. I would recommend this car to anyone. It's not a show contender, but an honest, un-molested, unpretentious and good running used car. Below a detailed summary follows;

1987 Audi Coupe GT (last year made)
2.2 liter - 5 cylinder (same 10v as 4000 quattro)
Automatic transmission
Power steering, brakes, windows and mirrors
AM/FM Stereo Cassette - 4 speakers
Volts and Oil Temp gauges in center console
Sunroof, cruise, alloy wheels, Air Cond. rear spoiler, rear wiper.
Digital dash ( very rare - available on 1987 Coupe GT ONLY 1 YEAR )
Trip computer, digital clock.
Black metallic with light gray velour interior.
No accidents, no rust.
159,600 miles

The Good:
*Strong motor, no leaks, no smoking, no noises, no symptoms, no excuses!!! Engine has many, many more miles and years left in it!
    *Transmission is perfect!
*Performance very good, quick response, easy starting, even idle, loves to rev!!!
*Just completed...New timing belt, tensioner, water pump, thermostat, radiator fan temperature switch, valve cover gasket, oil and filter, coolant, and battery. Recent tune up (plugs, cap, rotor, wires, etc. done about 2500 miles ago)
*Tight body, no rattles, interior in good shape.
    *All electrics in good condition.
*Very rare car, very appreciated and respected, great looks and interior room.
    *Heat works well.
*No dash or console cracks or damage.
*Suspension tight, good shocks, joints and steering.
    *Brakes very good.
    *Exhaust is quiet
    *Wheels and tires OK

The Bad:
*AC compressor clutch is bad. AC worked very cold before compressor died.
    *Mirror switch is bad.
    *Power antenna is dead
*Front Wheel Bearing on one side is slightly noisy (too early to tell which side)

The Ugly:
*Vanity mirror on passenger side does not light up.
    *Dent on driver's door.
*Reflector on front bumper missing (right side)
    *Needs fresh floor mats.

My asking price of $1250 is extremely fair considering what I spent on it recently and the overall condition. Compare this to almost anything else at this price and it should be a no-brainer. This car is not a peice of *@#%&* and definitely not a parts car. These coupes still look good after all these years and not like a Japanese rust-bucket. Still...it needs a few bucks to make it perfect but the car is reliable to drive anywhere right NOW!!!
I wanted to keep it but it's time to let go.
I will accept any calls with questions about this car or email me if you need any more specific pictures.
