Up for auction is a very unique Audi 5 cylinder exhaust manifold. These were typically found on 20V I5 Audi motors in 90's and Coupe Quattro's. It is a factory tubular header commonl;y referred to as a "bag of snakes" due to its inter-twining nature. I have taken a perfect example bag of snakes and had a stainless steel 2.5" v-band clamp welded on in place of the factory flange.
Then I had the manifold sent off to Jet Hot to receive a thorough cleaning to remove dirt, rust, etc. They then coated the header in their "steel grey" color 2000 degree coating, both inside and outside. That service roughly ran me $275 with shipping on top of the mainfold, v-band and welding itself.
I have never seen this bag of snakes like this before, so to me it is pretty much a one-off, unique part. This would be great for an all-motor I5 build where you will be doing a custom exhaust and also would like to reduce underhood temperatures without the need for the clunky heat shields. An added side benefit of this coating is that the headers metal is sealed, preventing subsequent rusting! I am confident this setup will lower temperatures under your hood and provide a small increase in power as a result of both cooler air coming in the intake (more so than with a factory setup w/ heat shields) as well as the fact the heat is retained better in the manifold to promote exhaust scaveging.
