I will probably regret this, but the time has come to part ways. With my 1990 200q avant. I'm looking to put my avant and all of my spares + Euro parts in one package and be done with it...
About 6 or 7 weeks ago it overheated on the way home from work and appears to have blown the heater core. I have not investigated or attempted repair, so the car is listed as-is or for parts. I strongly suspect that the car could be very easily put back into service, however, and it was running well when it went down. To be honest, I haven't even lifted the hood to investigate since the day it happened, but it didn't appear that a hose blew or anything else obvious. I made it all the way home that day, and it currently starts, runs, and moves under it's own power.
I considered mothballing and restoring her down the road, but it just isn't practical for me. I would much rather see it go to someone that will repair and mod it or at least put the parts to good use.
The car:
1990 200q avant. Currently reading just under 203k on the odo, and I have owned for 4+ years and 50k+ miles. The interior isn't "perfect" but it's really nice. Driver's seat heater doesn't work, but otherwise, remaining 3 are good. It has a Billzcat short shift kit, newer clutch (I think about 15k miles?), brake and clutch master and slave cylinders, new rebuilt brake bomb, newer front driveshaft CV and center bearing. It has Bilstein HDs all around, OEM 15" A6 rims (8 spoke wheels circa 1995) with Falken Ziex tires (still good tread left). Relayed Euro lights are installed, and I kept the US illuminated amber corners. (LOL, plus I have some Bosch Icon wipers on there which are about $500 a piece, aren't they????)
Parts stash:
Set of 4 barely used Boge Turbo Gas strut inserts / shocks + B&G lowering / sport springs (these are the same specs as H&R). Genuine Treser black rear tail lights and center section in good condition. Front and rear black sport seats from a 5k with Alcantara inserts -- these are pretty nice, but have a few scuffs and I think just two very small holes in the suede. Euro front bumper (the one with headlight washers, driving lights, and corner turn signals) with a Pearl painted lower valance and a spare unpainted lower valance, plus all of the stuff to install the spare washer fluid bottle. The bumper comes with a brand new, never installed pair of turn signal corners... I also have a known good AC compressor and some AC bits, a ton of random stuff like an antenna amplifier and all kinds of vacuum hose, a newish Interstate battery. I also have 4 15" five-spoke OEM Audi wheels circa the 1992+ 100q (though they're in crappy condition, they look cool and could be refinished pretty
easily -- and they're "free" in the package anyway).
Anyway, you get the idea. I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff.
That said, I'm looking for $2k to be rid of the whole habit. Some might find this pricey, but there's some goooooood stuff in there + rare + hard to find. I have a ton of reciepts and the car has many new or newer parts not mentioned here and has otherwise been very well cared for. The only rust is at the lower front fenders behind the wheels, and one or two TINY surface bubbles near the hatch. I won't split things up or part the car out unless I absolutely have to (and I'll avoid that at all costs!).
FYI, the car is currently unregistered and the state inspection has lapsed, so you'll have to trailer it or have it towed... But as I mentioned, it does run and move on it's own.
More pix available if there's serious interest.
Thanks,
Nick
