Description:
NO PICTURES.
I'm selling my 1986 4000 CS non-quattro. Sorry this is long, but hopefully it will answer most of your questions. 1.8 8v. Most CS models are quattro, but not this one. I bought this car locally, non-running, needing a fuel pump. It had been sitting for 6 months before I bought it, and before that it was a daily driver. I replaced the fuel pump (Bosch ~$220), along with the spark plugs and fuel injectors (another $220). It runs, but it has a cold-start problem, a low, rough idle, and the power seems to diminish after about 4000rpm. It likes staying between 2000-4000rpm. Once it warms up, it runs fine as long you stay below 4000rpm. Obviously there is something going on with the fuel injection (CIS-E), or the timing is off. The car has no leaks, and a recent Mobil 1 oil change. There is no apparent oil consumption. Compression test results are as follows: 170 168 172 175â¦very good! The brakes and power steering work well. The clutch and transmission feel fine. One outer CV boot is
torn, though not clicking. I have a CV boot kit, and I will fix that if I get a chance. The body is very presentable, especially for a 21-year-old car. The paint is shiny, the glass is good, the tires are wheels are good, the under-body and under-hood were clean when I bought the car, and they are even cleaner now. Being a Southern car, there is no visible rust. However, the car was hit on the passenger's side rear at some point, and repaired, and the inside of the trunk-well has some rust. Also, that quarter panel was painted, and if you look closely, you can tell. From 10 feet though, the car looks great. The trim around the windshield and rear window is weathered and ugly. The odometer was not working when I bought the car. It was showing 16x,xxx. I repaired the odometer and set it at 200,000. It currently shows 200,265. I run the engine frequently and add gas a gallon or two at a time to keep fresh gas in the tank. The interior is really nice overall. Decent headliner. The
original tan leather seat with alcantara inserts were torn, so I replaced them (front and rear) with very nice brown cloth Sport Seats from another 4000. Power windows work, central locks work, all door handles work, radio works (but has weak reception), e-brake works, sunroof works (and doesn't leak), instruments all work. AC blows warm, Cruise in-op. Exhaust is pretty much shot; the tailpipe broke off the muffler, and it's a little loud. I have had a lot of fun fiddling with this car. It's been my budget project car, but a while ago my '91 200q 20v was totaled, and after buying it back, it is my new project. If I get this 4000 running right, I might just keep it, but for now, it's yours for $700. Come take it for a test drive, but I wouldn't recommend traveling a long distance in it (even though I've driven 265 miles so far with no problems). Feel free to ask questions, or to ask for pictures. I'll try to update ad with pictures soon.
