Up for your consideration is my 1990 Audi Coupe Quattro in Ginster Yellow over Black leather. If you don't know much about these cars, they are relatively rare, fun and solid machines. One of 1,730 imported into the North American Market. This particular car was painted in the fabled Ginster Yellow, which has a following among enthusiasts. This car is extra special, as it has been well maintained by its owners and is accident free. In addition to this, it is one of the pre-airbag cars (6/1989 production), with the shelf located below the steering column. It does have the squared turn signal/secondary switches as well. Since it does not have the airbag, it is lighter than most Coupe Quattros out there.
The car began life in New Jersey, later making its way to the upper Midwest, and now Texas. From my understanding, I am the 4th owner. The car has no rust whatsoever. The paint is in overall good condition. There is some fading on the front bumper, and two scraps on the rear spoiler. The body is very straight with a slight dent in the front hood (smaller than a quarter), and a door ding on the passenger rear quarter panel. There is some scraping on the rear bumper as well. For a 19 year old car, it looks great. All the glass is in excellent condition. The wheels are aftermarket 17" rims; they are in average condition. The Bridgestone tires are in great shape with 50% remaining tread still.
This car is loaded with modern features. It has air conditioning (blows perfectly cold for the Texas heat), power windows/locks/mirrors, heated rear view mirrors, power seats with driver's side memory, defrosters, heated front seats, cruise control, power sunroof (2-way), rear wiper/washer, quattro all wheel drive, auxillary gauges, and a trip computer. These accessories all work perfectly, except the cruise and rear wiper. The trip computer provides accurate readings for all indications, such as MPG, miles until empty, etc. There is also an aftermarket Alpine head unit with CD and an Ipod connector.
The interior is in excellent condition for the age. There is some wear on the front seats, mostly on the driver's seat. There is a 1 inch separation in the leather on the driver's side bulster. A upholstery shop quoted me $150 to recover properly (next on my repair list). The wood trim is in excellent shape with no splitting or pitting. All interior plastic is in perfect shape, and there is no splitting of the dash. All the interiors illumination lights work properly. The headliner is also in good shape too.
The engine has no problems starting right up, and always runs properly. It runs very smoothly throughout all gears, with good power. The steering is tight, and the car handles really well with the Quattro all-wheel drive; the best part of this system is how seamless it is in operation. The car rides smoothly, given the stiff suspension setting. The car cruises effortlessly at highway speeds with excellent stability. The car averages 22-23 mpg overall. If doing straight highway driving, the car will easily get 27 mpg. The car has had continuous oil changes with synthetic oil.
Extras include the ABT rear wing (no longer produced), ABT exhaust system, H&R Springs, Boge shocks, stainless steel brake lines, 26 mm rear sway bar, Apline head unit with Ipod converter.
Recent work done on the car is all new rotors all around, a new catalytic converter, top engine rebuilt at 105K, K&N Air filter, and fresh oil.
Here is a list of the flaws (keep in mind it is a 19 year old car). Cruise control is inoperative, rear wiper is inoperative, headlight washes inoperative (I've owned 3 of these cars, none ever worked), small dent in the hood, door ding in the passenger rear panel, scraping on rear bumper, front bumper fading, and a tear in the driver's seat leather.
This car is amazing! It drives very well and will hold any road well, wet or dry! It is fun to drive, reasonable economical, and best of all, it's one of the rarest Audis produced. I've read conflicting accounts as to how many Ginster Yellow coupes were produced, but I am sure that there are only a handful that have been as well kept as this car.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I have owned three of these cars, so I have a lot of knowledge. I am only getting rid of the car, as I just splurged on a new, more expensive toy and 5 cars is too many! Thank you for your interest.
