Description:
PICTURES.

Iâve been toying with the idea of selling my â79 Audi Fox (one of the last B1s to roll off the production line). This was a one owner car from when it was purchased (here in Colorado) in late â78 through â03. When it stopped running it was sold to a European yard where it sat until late last year when I purchased it. It hasnât really run since 2003 so a lot was put into the car to bring it back to life. The engine has very good compression â the original owners paid big bucks to have the engine rebuilt in the mid-90s. From new this car has 124,000 actual miles on it (with all the paperwork in the world to back it up) as well as a clean Colorado title. On top of the engine rebuild the original owners spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on the car throughout the years! This Fox goes down the road straight with plenty of power to scoot around and could potentially be a daily driver although I usually keep it for fair-weather, weekend cruises.

This is an Alpine White over Sand Beige 4-door, 4-speed car with a factory sunroof, leatherette interior, and tachometer (yes it was a factory option!).

The pluses:
- Full records from new from the original owners (including a notebook of every fill-up with mileage, etc), original window sticker, and every little piece of paper you could think of or want is with the car.
- Original paint (the Alpine white paint still shines)!
- Recently stripped/sealed/refurbished fuel tank with new sending unit
- New fuel pump
- New fuel accumulator
- Rebuilt fuel distributor
- New injector o-rings and seats
- NOS Supersprint exhaust (give the 1.6 a nice tone over stock)
- New fuse box
- Rebuilt starter
- New shocks all the way around (Monroe Sensatracs up front, Monroe RadialMatics in the back)
- New German front strut mounts
- Newer springs up front (to close the wheel gap), along with B2 quantum syncro front strut housings and G54 brakes, (10.1â vented versus factory 9â solid discs), and stainless steel brake lines up front â this car stops REALLY well!
- Very cool Fox GTI 3-spoke âsportâ steering wheel
- Hot-Spark electronic ignition conversion â no more points!
- Brand new Bosch plugs, wires, cap, and rotor.

The minuses:
- Needs a windshield
- Dash is cracked but functional (have a brown cover for it in the mean time)
- Leatherette upholstery, while clean with intact foam, has what looks to be tire marks on the front passenger seat and rear seat. From what Iâve gathered rubber âleechesâ the dye from the leatherette, so perhaps an upholstery shop could re-dye the seats.
- Sometimes when the car is warmed up it takes a bit of cranking to get it to fire â but it always starts.
- While there is no rot on the car, there are a few spots of surface rust (primarily by the trim under the door on the rockers, under the hood (where Iâm assuming leaves and such gather while it sat in the yard), and some around the trunk opening (once again probably from leaves and debris). Iâve cleaned up as much as I could, but to me this car has been more of a survivor so I didnât want to repaint the whole car for a few minor spots).

I wonât be selling the car with the freshly refinished 15â Ronal R8 wheels with new Kumho (unless youâre willing to pay significantly more), however I have a set of 14â Audi Cooke Cutters from an early 80s coupe with good tires, or steel wheels with decent tires depending on what you want.

With this in mind, Iâd like $2000 for the Fox with the cookie cutter wheels, or $1700 for it with the steelies â but remember this is probably one of the last survivor-condition Foxes around with a complete history from new.

I might consider trading for an â81 4000 5+5, a 4-cyl 2-door 4000, or perhaps a 4000 quattro.
