For Sale:

1990 Audi Coupe Quattro, Black exterior and interior, heated / manual seats. Late build, coupe #14407, late ECU and all late-build features. 210,000 miles.

This car was originally owned by a college professor in Moscow, ID. He took European delivery in late 1989. It was owned by him until early 2005. There was one short-term owner between the original owner and myself, approx 8 months. The service records were lost by the interim owner, but I have confirmed that all factory recommended service had been performed by University Audi of Seattle, WA.

I purchased the car in December of 2005 with 113,000mi. I have since done two timing belt services and performed all required and preventative maintenance either myself or had done by a reputable shop. I have loved this car for the last 6.5 years and put nearly 100,000 miles on the odometer. It has made three trips up and down the west coast and only left me stranded once, due to a faulty fuel pump.

Highlights and recent maintenance:
@204,350mi
Install of 034 Motorsport 7A Turbo kit and chip tuning (completed December 15, 2011); at that time completed the following preventative or required maintenance items:
-New valve guides, seals, hydraulic lifters, cam chain and complete valve grind.
-Head gasket installed with new stretch bolts per factory spec.
-New distributor, wires, and plugs (three electrode bosch as recommended by 034MS)
-New bolt-through style knock sensors in both #1 and #2 positions.
-New engine and transmission mounts. 034 street density.
-Spec 3+ clutch and resurfaced flywheel. New ARP flywheel bolts.
-New Oxygen sensor
-New two bolt ball flange at down-pipe to catalytic converter connection.
-All fluids replaced, except rear differential. I have the oil, just never got around to doing it.
-Lubed driveshaft CV joints and inspected center joint for wear.
-I re-engineered the PCV and ISV systems to work with the turbo using factory VW/AUDI parts and custom connectors. The car idles great and oil consumption due to breather bypass is nearly eliminated now.
-Throttle plate restrictor was removed to improve throttle response.
-New radiator fan wiring and connectors, soldered connections.
-New outer left tie-rod end and alignment

Timing belt service was completed at approximately 180,000mi, in the Summer of 2009 along with the following:
-New timing belt, idler, and water pump.
-New radiator
-New 034 Silicone coolant hoses (all)
-034 7A bosch fuel injector kit with resistor bypass harness
-New catalytic converter
-Replaced passenger window regulator with used unit.
-Replaced brake bomb with recharged unit, still functioning great.

Features:
-20v Turbo engine
-16x7.5 Borbet C wheels (very difficult to find in this bolt pattern)
-H&R sport springs and Koni sport adjustable shocks
-Depo H4 headlights and clear indicators, Properly relayed and installed with a plug & play harness with circuit breaker inline. Protected with stone-guard.
-Relay modified fog light circuit, allowing the fog lights to be on w/o turning on the headlights.
-Check Engine light wired to engine fault circuit. Handy for diagnosing issues with the EFI.
-Replaced all exhaust donuts with chain reinforced type for lifetime durability.
-Car has rear hatch locating TSB complied with. Hatch squeaking is minimum with regular lubrication of the latch mechanism.
-All electrical switch backlights were recently replaced and are functional.
-Windows tinted in 2006, quite dark, maybe 20%. LLumar film, no fading.
-The A/C works great. I work at a licensed R-12 service facility. The whole system was emptied, leak-checked, re-oiled, and recharged over 4 years ago and still works flawlessly.

Condition:
Exterior: 7/10, paint is shiny but has signs of age, some chips, defects and scuffs. Rear bumper has a scuff and some damage to the bumper surround. I have an extra bumper and surround with no damage, needs paint. Front bumper has typical crack in the valance.
Interior: 9.5/10, absolutely fantastic black leather interior. Treated regularly with Leatherique and painstakingly maintained. No tears, no seperated seams, no dry leather. It could be a 10, but there is a small tear in one of the floor-mats (not noticeable when installed. Door cards, wood trim, and dash are perfect.
Engine: Very clean. Recent maintenance gave me a chance to get everything cleaned out. Very very slight pentosin seep from a pressure line that goes to the steering rack and a small coolant seep from a heater hose. Not enough to risk breaking the fragile plastic connections, but being watched.

Possible or upcoming maintenance items:
-Brakes have exceeded their life expectancy, pads are okay, but the rotors have a large lip of worn material. I was going to replace them with a big brake kit.
-Transmission is making a rattle noise when in neutral with the clutch out. It never made any noise prior to replacing the clutch, so I think it has something to do with the isolating springs on the clutch plate. The Spec clutch has stiffer springs and it could be causing gear chatter. I have not noticed any problems shifting and it seems to be fine, just something to note. I have subsequently found that others have noted similar issues with the spec clutch.
-Every once and a while I smell a little whiff of coolant inside the car. The car has the original heater core installed, so it could be on its last leg.
-With outside temperatures above 95°F, the car will start to overheat if you are in traffic, I suspect the fan relay is not kicking it into high, but I have not had time to troubleshoot. I will swap out the fan relay with a known-good part and see if that helps. (*UPDATE: I swapped the hi/low fan relays and still have the same problem. I have narrowed it down to a thermoswitch or fan motor. The fan works fine with the switch leads jumpered but not every time. Still some work to do here, but it is relatively simple.)

This is a fantastic car. It gets plenty of compliments from car enthusiasts of all types. I have driven it daily for the past 6 years. It is very rare to see one of these in good to excellent condition, especially in a highly desirable color combination, Black/Black. With an extensive maintenance history and much of the major services recently completed, this car is perfect for someone who wants to enjoy a CQ as a daily driver or as a second car. The turbo really makes this car a lot of fun to drive.
