1992 Audi UrS4 Tornado Red, black interior. 253k mi. $2500
I have owned this car for basically the last 3 years. It was a Craigslist find in need of some cosmetic attention more than anything, bumpers, mid and lower door moldings, headlight lenses, etc. It was used as a commuter car from Vail to DIA, basically a 120 mile highway commute one way. Since its purchase, I have enjoyed driving it mostly as a winter car and restoring it to somewhat of a 30 footer.
There are full receipts for this car from day one, being purchased by the original owner here in Colorado at Pioneer Audi. The car was serviced regularly and has a stellar history of upkeep and maintenance at the Audi dealer and independent Audi shops that nearly equal half the original purchase price of the car. Therefore, the drivetrain has been solid. Always been a Colorado car so there is virtually no rust anywhere on this car.
Since my ownership, I have replaced many known failure items to bring it up to a solid daily driver.
In the last 4k mi I have replaced: Coolant sensors, oil sensors, temp sensors, fuel sensors, O2 sensor, thermostat, air and fuel filters, spark plugs, power steering lines and hoses, valve cover gasket, coolant hoses and connections, Samco boost hose, radiator, coolant expansion tank, serpentine belt, alignment. Audi oem G50 tranny fluid, coolant flush. Brake fluid flush with Super Blue.
Also, most of the front suspension is new in the last 2k mi: Tie rod ends, struts, lower control arms and bushings, upper strut mounts. E-brake cables work fine.
New Apikol 2.0 Coil upgrade kit and wiring harness. Also Apikol front snub mount. OEM motor and transmission mounts.
A/C works GREAT! Recharged last summer,2012, with R134a conversion kit. The climate control works as it should, all flaps work and direct air where they should, all windows work, including the side view mirrors. The sunroof switch has been disconnected because of phantom opening and closing. I am assuming the contacts need cleaning is all.
I have installed a 1995 S6 sport steering wheel because I had it lying around. Horn is inoperable.
Euro headlight lenses with upgraded bulbs, much better light output compared with the DOT stuff.
The wheels were refinished to the tune of $500. Comes with 2 extra Fuchs wheels in poor condition.
Passes emissions with flying colors here in CO.
Car currently has 215/55/16 Hakkapellita 2 studless snow tires mounted. Will come with a used set of Toyo Proxes 4 sized 225/50/16.
Has a brand new heater core and heater control valve to be installed if you would like. To my knowledge the heater core does not leak. I was going to replace this preemptively. The car does not burn ANY oil in 3k mi which is remarkable for its mileage.
The black interior on this car is nothing short of amazing for the year. Literally no bolster wear on the driver seat or any of the seats for that matter. The 1992 leather is a firmer leather than subsequent years and therefore wears really well on these cars, especially the black. It is firm but there is no splitting on the stitching anywhere. Both seat heaters still work. I have vinyl covered all of the standard 1992 elm trim with a brushed titanium trim, ala BMW M5, which looks fantastic against the black interior. You can always remove it to reveal a perfect elm trim underneath if you so choose. Stock stereo.
So what is wrong with the car? Plain and simple the paint is beat up. Make no mistake, the pictures can be quite deceiving. Sure it polishes up to look presentable from 30 feet, but up close it is rock pitted and scratched on just about every panel, especially the hood and roof. I am being as honest as possible as I do not want anyone thinking otherwise. The front grill surround was so bad I took the time to sand it down, prime it, and then took a rattle can to it in the lovely flavor of Valspar Ruby Cut Gloss which actually matches Tornado Red pretty damn well. Also the trunk was sanded, primed and painted in the same rattle can approach. There is a ripple/dent in the passenger rear quarter panel just above the fuel filler door and a dent in the lower rocker panel under the drivers front door. There is a 12 inch crack in the brand new windshield, on the passenger side, otherwise perfect. The front bumper is from an S6 and has been repaired on the passenger side. The front bu
 mper is
a quick release version with two 3 inch screws holding it on each end because of the broken brackets behind it. Again, we are talking about a 21 year old Colorado highway commuter car, with paint that has seen better days. But again, replacing the front and rear bumpers, all of the lower door trim, all of the mid door trim, headlight lenses and giving it a good polishing, it looks pretty decent.
The car runs really well, makes full boost, shifts nicely, tracks straight with no clunks in the suspension. The left front wheel bearing could use a replacement in the near future. I have spent $4k in the last year on this car. Email me or call with any questions. Chadaclark4 at msn.com
