1994 Audi S4 (UrS4) Quattro
I bought this car several months ago with the intentions of using it as a winter beater, but I changed direction (bought a much newer Audi) and am selling it, along with my garage-queen 1993 S4 which will also be listed soon). It is not pretty, but if the new owner does not mind cosmetics, it is a pretty nice driving car, and it is very affordable for someone looking to upgrade to an S-car.
Cosmetic condition-
Exterior is rough. The hood, front bumper, headlights, and grill were damaged in a deer strike. The headlights were replaced with units from a C4 100 (work fine, just not great performance). There are a few dents, but only one rust spot (passenger fender). The paint is shiny on the sides, but the hood, roof, and trunk have significant clear coat failure.
Interior is not great either- driver seat has torn leather, passenger seat is a bit weathered, and the back seat bottom shows that this car was driven by a busy mother. The back seat back is near mint however. All power functions work. AC cold/heat hot, HVAC controls are sometimes finicky- common issue, pretty easy to fix.
Mechanical-
Engine- Runs well, pulls hard. I have had to add less than a quart of oil in the 4000 miles I have had it. The previous owner stated that the engine received synthetic oil for the last several years, (and likely its whole life). I recently changed the oil again with Shell Rotella T6 5w40, and I also flushed the coolant with new G12. Timing belt was replaced within the last year.
Chassis- shifts well, no grinding or slop, suspension is not super fresh, but it goes down the highway nicely. (I took it to Michigan and back the week after I bought it- what a highway cruiser! 24mpg to boot) Power steering leaks a little at the pump. You will need to add a little Pentosin once a month or so, or rebuild the pump. I replaced the rear calipers with good rebuilt used ones- no more seeping fluid. New rear pads were installed, and I flushed the brakes. I also replaced the clutch master cylinder and bled the clutch. Underbody is surprisingly clean in terms of corrosion- not California clean- but much much better than any Michigan Audi I have owned.
Wheels/tires- the original Fuchs are showing their age, but they are straight. The front tires are new no-name all seasons, and the rears are Firestone Winterforce. The rears are worn badly due to an alignment issue that is now corrected. Theyâd get likely get you home, but theyâre kind of noisy. Iâd recommend new rear tires soon, or perhaps a set of new winter tires.
Overall, this would be a great winter car, restoration project, or parts car (though I would hate to see it go that way). Might be a good first car too, as long as your 16 year old is more responsible than I was at that age.
