Im finally ready to give up on my beloved A8q. I bought the car almost 5 years ago with a broken transmission. It had hit a bit of concrete in the road, dented the oil pan, and broken the plastic oil filter. The bits of plastic from the filter had clogged up the internals; after cleaning them out it was good to go. I put about 10,000 miles on the car after that taking the total to about 215,000.<br /><br />One day, mere minutes after finishing installing 4 new Lemforder front control arms, I was driving on some winding roads and using the Tiptronic. At one sharp corner I downshifted all the way to first gear and suddenly had no drive. I went up to 2nd and still nothing. Up to 3rd and it worked. 4th and 5th worked as well. Next time I went for 2nd I got limp mode (locked in 4th). I made my way back to the shop and eventually determined that there must be internal hardware damage so I pulled it apart again. The clutch A basket had failed which I found to be a common failure. It
  took
me almost 2 years to get the money and motivation together at the same time. I bought a new, upgraded/strengthened, replacement and installed it.  It seemed to go well on my first drive, 25 miles from work to home. The next morning on the way in to work everything was fine right up until I used the loud pedal a bit as I was approaching work and then downshifted as I pulled in to the driveway. I selected first gear and suddenly had no drive. I was so gutted that I put the car in storage while intending to gather parts for a manual swap, but I never did actually buy anything. The car has been stored indoors for the past 3 years except for the night I drove it home.<br /><br />Car has H&R springs/coilovers, aftermarket 18in wheels, and tint; otherwise stock.
