Description:
PICTURES.

This is a 110,5XX-mile 2002 Audi S6 (C5 bodystyle), one of just over 1,000 imported into the US, adult-owned, carefully driven, continuously garaged, unmodified, and extremely well maintained. All of the major services have recently been performed, including a rebuild of the Tiptronic manumatic transmission (with one-year warranty on the rebuild), timing belt changed, brand new Goodyear Eagle Sport all-season performance tires installed, an alignment with a three-year guarantee performed, front control arm bushings, a new radiator and coolant expansion tank. It also comes with a full set of four Continental ContiSportContact 3 high-performance summer tires from the previous owner; I never installed them since I was more worried about wet-weather traction than extreme summer performance.

I maintained the car at specialist shops, Redmond European and Precision Motorworks, since I bought the car in Dec. 2011, and I have full maintenance records. I have only given it full synthetic oil and premium gas. The previous owner (who purchased it off-lease) was an editor at Car and Driver magazine and maintained it at his local VW/Audi dealership; it was his wifes car. In summary, it has been owned and babied by meticulous enthusiasts since early in its life.

If youre not familiar with the C5 S6, it is the ideal blend of performance, luxury, and capability. Its like a world-class sprinter with hiking boots and a backpack; its one of the few choices available for those who want a European high-performance wagon, but need more space than you can get in a BMW 3-series or Audi S4 Avant. In terms of performance, this car has a 320-horsepower, 4.2-liter, 32-valve V-8 that sounds and feels fantastic, and sharp handling. For luxury, it has power and leather everywhere, heated seats front and rear, and a heated steering wheel and side mirrors, with a gorgeous suede headliner. For utility, you have a big wagon area, with folding rear seats and a cargo cover. And of course you have the famous quattro system, one of the most sophisticated AWD systems on the road, which has allowed me to accelerate smoothly up icy hills and to break trail on roads covered with soft powder. The only compromise in this car is that it only gets 16 MPG on premium gas.
Its currently registered and tabbed and passed emissions earlier this year.

Im selling it because I recently had a second kid. I know its counter-intuitive to sell a mid-sized wagon when a baby comes along, but my wifes car was ruined by our first baby, and this is too special a car to suffer the same fate. Its also overkill for what I use it for, which is basically commuting in rush-hour traffic in and out of Seattle.

In depth:
- The major maintenance items in the 18,000 miles in which Ive owned it include:
- Transmission rebuilt in October through Redmond European with one year warranty, and checked twice after the rebuild with a clean bill of health in both instances
- Timing belt changed
- 4 new oxygen sensors and water temperature sender in October
- Wheel speed sensor cleaned in September
- Brand new Goodyear Eagle Sport all-season tires in February
- Alignment in February performed in February, with three-year guarantee
- Front control arm bushings
- Front and rear brake pads and rotors
- Regular synthetic oil changes
- Cooling system repairs, including replacing radiator, coolant expansion tank, fan temp switch, replacing fan clutch and resealing the oil cooler housing last February

Good:
- Adult-driven and owned
- Very well-maintained
- Always garaged
- Overall, it drives and handles like new
- The engine runs flawlessly
- The transmission shifts flawlessly in both automatic and manumatic modes and is under warranty
- Quattro all-wheel-drive works flawlessly
- Air conditioner blows cold
- Everything else also works - heat, lights, electrical accessories, etc.
- No pixels missing in the dash display
- Both the CD player and tape player in the factory stereo work fine
- Headlight lenses are nice and clear - no yellowing

Bad:
- Black cars are hard to keep immaculate. The car is clean and pretty, but if you look at the right angle in full sunlight, you can see light scatches in the paint, one noticeable rock chip, and one door ding. This is normal stuff and didnt bother me as a daily driver, but if youre looking for a show car, a bit of buffing would make this car glow.
- When the car is cold, the first time the steering wheel is turned, the power steering pump makes a noise. It otherwise works perfectly.
- When the radio volume is at a low level, the radio knob does not increase the volume. It works fine at higher volume levels, and the steering wheel volume controls work fine - thats what I use.
- Some of the individual interior trim pieces are showing their age (i.e. the headlight switch has a clear section where the black covering has worn through)

Also comes with:
- Four Continental ContiSportContact 3 summer high-performance tires
- Owners manual
- Bentley Audi C5 A6/S6 Factory Service Manual
- Retractable cargo cover
- Cargo net
- Thule tire chains (never used - if you want to use them, you probably need another set to run the same chains all the way around. But ultimately I never even remotely needed chains)
