I ended up getting one from the junkyard that had
spent years? lying buried in the mud after someone
removed the wheel. It was so rusty he gave it to me.
I cut it in half with a high speed cut-off wheel and
quickly figured out how it was assembled. Interesting
piece of hardware; to me anyhow. After you get the
snap ring out from above the base of the piston stud,
screw the piston back on and use it to pull the stud
out. Taking the boot and piston o-ring out makes it
easy to screw the piston on. If you can't pull it out
you might lever under the piston with a screwdriver.
This should easily remove it. The o-ring is probably
stiff and swollen, and rust or what used to be brake
fluid are probably also making things difficult. This
is usually the problem. Less likely is that the brake
lever shaft has rust/goop and won't rotate freely. It
rides in a bush pressed in the caliper.
