Yes Rob,
The V8 was originally 3.6L and was enlarged to 4.2L. This happened in
either '92 or '93, can't remember which. 240hp to 280hp, IIRC.

The tranny on the S4 should be the same as the V8 5-speed, as the S4 4.2
used the same tranny, IIRC, with the 6-speed being an option.

The gearing is different on the S4 tranny however..the case itself is the
same on the later manual tranny... (this comes from dad who went to the
school in germany for the car :) )  I may be getting confused here thou...
between the A8 and the V8... didnt the V8 have a engine size change?... if
so its the Newer of the 2 engines that the S4 tranny CASE is the same...
