You could do that if you had enough floor pan clearance, but you would have to do something about the center diff...

housing, the gear cluster, and the tail section. I'm almost positive that
all of the Audi transmissions have an output shaft at the rear, but in the

Theoretially you could bolt a 6 spd tranny from an S6 to any of the inline
5's regardless of the drivetrain configuration. On the non quattros the
layout is still the same from the tranny forwards. Therefore you'd just
have to plug the hole in the back of the tranny where the driveshaft would
be.
