Does anyone know how to troubleshoot type 44 stereo?

experiencing problems w/ stereo on my 87 5ktq.  no sound from rear speakers
and low sound w/ volume to max from front speaker  whether it's the radio or
cassette.  is it the speakers, amp, or both?  thanx.
