Serious stumbling

Hello all.

First let me thank everyone for help with my vinyl rip! Doctor Vinyl came
by and fixed it -- absolutely seamlessly. I remember where the tear was,
but can't for the life of me detect any remnants of it.

My issue today for which I look to the audi gods is a terrible stumbling
my car has developed. It almost feels as if a cylinder is not firing, but
there is no lack of power.

Over the last few days the stumbling (which sounds like a car that's just
been started up after a long long idle time) only occurred when the engine
was warm... now it happens more frequently. At first it only occured at
idle or constant velocity. Now it is smooth at idle but under acceleration
just chokes on itself from 2-3K rpm. The car does not smoke, and I
inspected each of the sparkplugs and plug wire connections as well as
distributor (6mo old) and cap.

The exhaust (new aftermarket) seems to generate the most sound. The engine
itself doesn't *seem* to be running any louder, though it does vibrate
considerably more than before. This lead me to initially think a motor
mount had given out.

My car is currently at DIA while I am in KC. I hope he'll get me home when
I return tomorow morning.

The current thought in my mind is that perhaps the cat has collapsed on
itself and is causing problems. Any ideas?
