Well, guys - it's finally arrived. Sometime tomorrow evening 100+
people will gather in the Hythe Imperial hotel with 50 ur-quattros.
The next morning we will set off for Ingolstadt, where we will be
joined by about as many cars again to celebrate 20 years of quattro
as guests of Audi.
I'm not part of 'the group' as such - my ur-quattro is staying here.
I'm going:
a) to provide technical and language backup to the travelling cars,
b) to have some business meetings related to my 'day job',
c) to try and establish contact with Audi's 'old timer' support effort,
d) my own social programme.
I'm not staying in the same hotels as the group except on Saturday
night. Otherwise I'm staying with friends throughout.
I'll be setting my list options to 'no mail'. Fifteen kilobyte
diatribes about extra injectors are expensive enough to download
as it is, but on an internationally-roaming cellphone at 9600 baud ...
(As an aside - list volume has grown about 30% since the change. Some
is extra headers, some an increase in HTML getting through.)
quk@ and phil@ will be checked regularly - the latter more frequently
for business reasons and because we'll be using email on the trip.
SMS messages to +44 7785 302803 will be read in real time.
I'll try and post to the list as we pass the major milestones. On
Saturday I hope to meet with some of the original ur-quattro designers
and some of Audi's current management. I have invitations both for the
UK 'quattro 2000' gala dinner and also for the parallel German language
event being run by Audi - since I'll get 100 reports about the former
and there may be some interesting people at the latter, that's where
I'll probably go.
Oh, and if Eric's still about - I'm taking a raft of Leicas to capture
the trip and because some need servicing. I'll be dropping in on Leica
in Solms on the way back. I wanted to take a digital camera and upload
pictures in flight, but I can't find a single UK dealer stocking digital
cameras that support the IrTran-P protocol to interface with the Nokia
9110i.
