I wish it were different. I wish that Audi would have just used the d*mn
5x112 hubs from the Typ44 on all their 1990-1991 cars. Then I could get
some cool wheels, big brakes, yadda yadda...

Right on.

I'm sure the A4 parts would be readily available. I have been crusing the
audiworld boards and there are lots of people with excess cash and big
brakes :P. I would have to see what really happens with the big rotor in
the wrong offset to make judgment.
As for improved braking, it's a few factors:
1) 256mm vs. 288mm. Not bad, if the stock rotor will work.
2) New brakes vs. my old 1991-vintage brakes. Not that calipers are
generally a terrible wear item, but enough salty Chicago winters and
lack of PO rebuilds, well, you get the picture.
3) Overall, less of an investment than the BIRA setup. I don't argue
that some Porsche monoblocks wouldn't look sweet on my car, but the
wallet begs to differ :>. Also, BIRA doesn't offer anything for the
20v sedans, mostly because there is no 4x108 funny-offset rotor bigger
than 276mm that anyone can find. Yes, Coleman will make you one, but
at $490 a set with custom hats, it ain't cheap either.
4) Seems lots of A4q owners track their stock brake setups pretty well.
Any insights here?
I guess I'm seeking improvement rather than sinking $1k into brakes...
